Concert Etude, Opus 49 - Alexander Goedicke / arr. David Marlatt
This is a flashy trumpet solo that is often heard in concert, recital and competition situations. The brisk tempo combined with bursts of double tonguing have made this a popular technical showpiece with trumpet players all over the world. This work is on many contest and festival lists and many high school players choose to perform this as an audition piece for college / university. Originally scored for trumpet and piano, the use of a full concert band rather than piano adds a whole new depth, timbre and color to the sound.

Storm Chaser - David Marlatt
Here is an exciting and energetic piece for young band which combines dynamic and driving rhythms and a variety of percussion colors. Storm chasers are brave men and women that persue tornados or hurricanes for scientific work or just for the thrill of witnessing these amazing natural events up close. A band/audience-generated rain effect and a "pick a note" measure will make this a unique experience for both young performers and audiences.

The Maid of the Mist - Herbert L. Clarke / arr. David Marlatt
This fun light piece is a great showpiece for the cornet. It is named after the sight-seeing boats for tourists in Niagara Falls. Set as a polka, there is much opportunity for the soloist to display quick fingers and light triple tonguing. To create a clean new edition, dynamics and articulations were made more consistent in the parts. Other items were changed to reflect the bands of today including F Horn parts rather than E-flat and the percussion parts have been reorganized. This is the first time this work has been available with a full conductor score rather than a piano reduction.

For Those Who Have Served - David Marlatt
provides ultimate flexibility for ensembles with incomplete instrumentation or odd combinations. These pieces are playable by as few as 5 woodwind, brass, or string players with or without percussion. This creates the opportunity for a mixed quintet to perform these titles but also allows for performance for 10-15 players up to full a band/orchestra with parts doubling. Great for music camps, contest use or any band room that has non-standard instrumentation. Sounding very patriotic in nature would make an ideal selection to be performed at a reflective event or simply to pay homage to the thousands of men and women who have served in the military or front line workers during times of crisis. The noble theme is first heard in a solo voice before moving to a more full sonority. A second theme with a very different feel is performed before the original soloist's sound brings this lyrical piece to peaceful conclusion. (2:45)

Chinese Dragon Parade - David Marlatt
The dragon dance is often part of a parade during Chinese New Year and other special events. It is performed by a team of skilled dancers using poles to manipulate a long flexible figure of a dragon. The colorful display combined with driving percussive music is a truly amazing spectacle to see. There are four different dragons represented here---each with a unique character and personality---that are then combined with each other in different ways musically.
