Abide with Me - William Henry Monk / arr. David Marlatt
provides ultimate flexibility for ensembles with incomplete instrumentation or odd combinations. These pieces are playable by as few as 5 woodwind, brass or string players with or without percussion. This creates the opportunity for a mixed quintet to perform these titles but also allows for performance for 10-15 players up to full a band/orchestra with parts doubling. Great for music camps, contest use or any band room that has non-standard instrumentation. This beautiful hymn has been arranged to feature all the members in a mixed ensemble. This arrangement opens with a short introduction then proceeds through several verses. Each verse is scored differently for interest with the melody wandering throughout the ensemble. (3:30)

I'm a Pirate - David M. Martin
Shiver me timbers, matey! What a terrific training work for young band and wouldn't you, the conductor, cut a swashbuckling figure in a tri-cornered hat and eye patch with a parrot on your shoulder? (A wooden leg would be optional.)

Caribbean Crustacean - David M. Martin
This is an outstanding addition to the first and second year band repertoire and will provide an opportunity to introduce or reinforce basic syncopation. The excellent melodic material uses only limited ranges and instrumentation. There is plenty to keep the percussion section busy; just double the auxiliary parts as needed. This is tasteful and appropriate writing for beginning bands.

Cousins - Herbert L. Clarke / arr. David Marlatt
Clarke wrote Cousins, a cornet and trombone duet with band accompaniment in 1904 for himself as the cornet soloist and Leo Zimmerman as the trombone soloist. To create a clean new edition, dynamics and articulations were made more consistent in the parts. Other items were changed to reflect the bands of today including F Horn parts rather than E-flat and the percussion parts have been reorganized. This is the first time this work has been available with a full conductor score rather than a piano reduction.

Andante et Allegro - Joseph Guy Ropartz / arr. David Marlatt
This is a standard piece in solo trumpet repertoire that is used on countless festivals and competitions. Ropartz was a French composer who studied with Csar Franck. The terrific contrast between the slow lyrical playing and the bright fanfares makes this piece a great one for demonstrating everything the trumpet can do. The original was scored for cornet and piano and this arrangement for band allows for a wider range of timbres in the accompaniment.

Three Susato Dances from - Tylman Susato [Tielman Susato] / arr. David Marlatt
These dances were taken from a much larger suite originally for just four recorders. Style is everything with these short pieces---brilliant fortes are contrasted with smooth lyrical playing. The ensemble must work together to match articulations, dynamics, and style. All the instrument families get a chance to shine and this could also be used as an educational piece to study the Renaissance era and its music.
