Rahoon is a rapsodic work for clarinet solo and band by Alfred Reed. Using a poem by James Joyce, a haunting lament to a dead lover called "She Weeps Over Rahoon," as the basis, the work was commmissioned by the University of Delaware for the outstanding young clarinetist Eudgene F. Gonzales. The work has enjoyed many fine performances and recordings, including one by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.

Scored for trumpet soloist Wynton Marsalis, Donald Hunsberger's band accompaniment arrangement of in Jean-Baptiste Arban's collection of Fantasias and Variations possesses a breadth of musical styles that demand strict formal analysis in addition to interpretative and technical requirements. The opening section features a flowing melodic passage followed by a technical passage with a return to the style of the opening melody. The theme is then stated which leads into three variations that employ variants in triplet groupings, quadruple 16th-note groupings, and finally, the ever-present triple tonguing, once again a primary technical resource utilized in this and others of the Fantasias. Fantasie Brillante is one of eleven solos in the Marsalis/Hunsberger project. The recital version of all eleven trumpet solos with piano accompaniment is available in one book for soloist use in preparation or for recital performance (00-35429). Hunsberger's band accompaniments for all eleven solos are available from Alfred either for sale or as rental works. Recordings of all eleven tunes performed by Wynton Marsalis with band accompaniment (performed by the Eastman Wind Ensemble, conducted by Donald Hunsberger) remain available from Sony BMG Music Entertainment, on iTunes and a variety of other retail sources. The libretto is based on the biblical books of 2 Kings, Jeremiah, Lamentations and Daniel and the 1836 play by Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois and Francis Cornu. This LudwigMasters publication of the Overture to the opera was transcribed by Kenneth Singleton.

These pieces are playable by as few as 5 woodwind, brass, or string players with or without percussion. This creates the opportunity for a mixed quintet to perform these titles but also allows for performance for 10-15 players up to full a band/orchestra with parts doubling. Great for music camps, contest use or any band room that has non-standard instrumentation. The word jagged can be defined by either 1) having a rough or harsh quality or 2) having a sharply uneven surface or outline. Both of these definitions are reflected by this piece through the constant changing of feel, irregular rhythmical patterns, sudden dynamic changes, and often changing of direction in melodies and motifs. Dramatic, catchy, and exciting parts for all in this original piece by Ryan Meeboer.
